DOCSIS Codewords and their Importance in Monitoring RF Performance

Codewords are a key feature and an important check on data transmission in DOCSIS networks. They are are often able to recreate bad bits of data corrupted by linear distortions and noise in the cable plant if the corruption is not too bad (a correctable codeword error).  It is also important to monitor codeword because they can tell an operator which subscribers are likely experiencing poor service, and which may be having issues in the near future.

In this video, I discuss with Peter Olivia the importance of tracking correctable and uncorrectable codeword errors.
